| 2010 "Jersey Awards" We at Jersey Sports News, are extremely humbled by all the support our advertisers and business partners have shown to the local student-athletes who greatly deserve this special recognition. The Jersey Awards, is celebrating Ten Years of honors that have touched the hearts and spirits of many past recipients. The Jersey Award is not just another award but an achievement of excellence on and off the playing field. This award is highly sought after by students, coaches and humanitarians who have set a standard so high, that it takes our staff several months to validate and vote for our winners. The Jersey Award is about pride and tradition. Respect and honor, dedication and perseverance. Teamwork and sportsmanship. Thousands of Monmouth and Ocean county student-athletes are nominated, but only one will take home the prize in his or hers sport. Our past winners have graced the halls of Harvard, Princeton, Columbia and Yale. They have played for Duke, USC, Oklahoma and Rutgers. Some have gone on to play in the NFL, MLB, NBA and the PGA. Most of all, our winners all have received a college degree and have made a difference in their communities. I was told by my father, an education is something nobody could ever take away from you. You can be striped a title or lose a big game, but an education will stay with you forever. It's a gift, and some people never realize its potential. With a honor comes responsibility. Every student-athlete in this room tonight, took on that responsibility when you sacrificed your time and god given talents and shared them with the world. I commend our parents, our coaches and our educators that never gave up on a child who wanted to learn, to achieve and to reach for those stars. The sixteen years that my family has owned this publication, has been very rewarding to us as well. Not because it became our business. It became our passion. The desire and achievement to give back to our community a sense of pride and respect for the greater good of humanity. I applaud our sponsors, advertisers and supporters for allowing us to present the 10th annual Jersey Sports News, "JERSEY AWARDS!"
